Matt Jacob

Matt Jacob (b. 1994, in Milwaukee, WI; currently based in Alfred, NY) is a visual artist, most often working with glass and light. His work explores themes of community, identity, perception, and connection. Working with a variety of techniques, both sculptural and illustrative, and across a wide variety of concepts and themes, he makes work that often has a playful surface, with layers of emotions and narrative hidden beneath. Often working in hot glass and neon, he uses light as a medium to reflect the connections that exist between people, and draws from his background in illustration, comics, and zines to tell stories, both universal and personal, and to create experiences, both intimate and immersive.

Matt Jacob (b. 1994, in Milwaukee, WI) studied art at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2018. Working largely within the medium of glass, but also within illustration and comics, he spent the next 7 years working professionally within the arts, and supporting his own studio practice. He has been a glass artist-in-residence at WheatonArts (Millville, NJ, 2023) and Starworks (Star, NC, 2024). In 2023, he was invited to be a Craftsperson-In-Residence, a “Neon Gaffer” at Pilchuck Glass School, where he has spent many summers as seasonal staff. From 2018-2025 he was an instructor at the Chrysler Museum of Art Glass Studio (Norfolk, VA), and from 2022-2025 he taught High School art classes (glass, neon, comics) at the Governor’s School of the Arts (Norfolk, VA). In 2025, he began pursuing his Master of Fine Arts degree in Sculpture and Dimensional Studies at Alfred University.
